Verstappen takes stunning Hungarian Grand Prix victory after Leclerc error

Leclerc started from pole but Verstappen proved too strong in the end

Sainz completes the podium as Hamilton recovers to finish fourth

Max Verstappen took a stunning victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix after Charles Leclerc crashed out of the lead with just four laps remaining. Sergio Perez finished second for Red Bull, with Carlos Sainz completing the podium for Ferrari.

Leclerc started from pole position but Verstappen was quickly on his tail. The Dutchman passed Leclerc on the opening lap and looked to be in control of the race. However, Leclerc fought back and the two drivers traded the lead several times in the first half of the race.

On lap 48, Leclerc made a mistake and crashed out of the lead. Verstappen inherited the lead and cruised to victory. Sainz finished second, ahead of Perez. Lewis Hamilton recovered from a poor start to finish fourth, ahead of George Russell and Fernando Alonso.

The victory was Verstappen's eighth of the season and extends his lead in the championship standings. Leclerc's crash was a major setback for Ferrari, who are now 80 points behind Red Bull in the constructors' championship.
